10 Things to Pray for Your Children

My precious baby boy lay sleeping peacefully in my arms during his afternoon nap time. This has become our routine: sometime between one and two o’clock, I tell him its time for a nap. He then tells me what I must do: “Mommy, get your coffee and Bible.” Yes, he knows me well!

I sit propped up on pillows and he lays his head in my lap (sometimes after a lot of chit-chatting about his day). I read my Bible and begin to pray (sometimes softly out loud) and he (usually) drifts off to sleep. This is essential time for both of us. It gives him a much-needed break in the middle of the day and it gives me much-needed time with Jesus.

Having him asleep next to me often inspires me to begin praying for my kids. I mean, just look at this….

When you pray for your kids, where do you begin? Often there is so much on my heart for them, it can be hard to organize my thoughts. I have found that simply turning to God’s Word is the best place to start.

Every time we read the Bible, we are not just reading words on a page, but truth that is “living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).

One day as I was searching the Bible and praying over my kids, I made a list of different Scriptures I like to pray over them and specific areas of their lives I’m asking for God’s Spirit to move. I had the thought to turn it into a pretty PDF so that others can put it on their fridge or in their Bibles too. There are hundreds of Scriptures that we can pray over our children and this is by no means exhaustive, but I hope that it will bless you as you seek to cover your children in prayer.

Wisdom and Revelation: Ephesians 1:17-19 “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might”
